Students in the Transdisciplinary Design graduate program present their work from the spring 2011 semester, during which they explored low-income food ecosystems from a design perspective. Working with partners in the South Bronx, the students produced a detailed study of food production, transportation, and consumption in the community of Hunts Point. After exploring the processes and agents that affect food availability in Hunts Point, they proposed socially, environmentally, and economically sustainable alternative models, intended as design frameworks adaptable to a variety of environments and locales worldwide. The goal of the studio was not to develop final designs but to shed light on food ecosystems in urban communities, particularly low-income neighborhoods. http://newschool.edu/parsons/festival-events.aspx?id=65197
