Drawing on the V&A’s rich holdings of 19th-century photographs, this display will examine the relationship that developed between photography and architectural practice in the 19th century and explore how photography facilitated the re-discovery of an idealized past. The display will also address the role played by photography in the recording of buildings before demolition and its use as a tool for preserving the national architectural heritage.
