Co-presented by Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival and Wedge Curatorial Projects The exhibition Guy Tillim: Avenue Patrice Lumumba has been organized by the Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College Chicago. Funding for this exhibition has been provided by the Lannan Foundation. APRIL 20 - JUNE 14, 2011 Exhibition Hall: Adult $10, Student/Senior $8, DX Member free admission The exhibition is comprised of 55 images from Guy Tillim’s (South African, b. 1962) series Avenue Patrice Lumumba (2007-08). In this project Tillim records the architecture and infrastructure of colonial and postcolonial Africa. Originally a photojournalist, Guy Tillim has spent most of his career documenting social conflict and inequality in the countries of Africa. In Avenue Patrice Lumumba, he captures the huge, crumbling institutional structures—post offices, schools, offices, hotels, and banks—that reveal the demise of colonialism in western and southern Africa.
