Join us at Van Alen Books for a midweek game! Rotterdam-based spatial planner Hans Venhuizen visits our Brown Bag Reading Series to introduce Game Urbanism, leading a discussion of his recent book and a demonstration of his concepts in practiceor we should say play. Noting the lack of public engagement in many planning efforts, Venhuizen uses ingenious large-scale social games to explore an area’s culture and the various interests at stake. Drawing on cultural history, architecture, and art as points of departure, Venhuizen makes game theory a playful yet powerful way to involve citizens in the fate of rapidly changing urban spaces.
