How to Succeed in Architecture: Innovative Workplace Design Live! Tuesday April 29th, 2014 — 10am - 11am PST Join NOVEDGE for a Panel Discussion on Google+ Hangout on April 29th, 2014 — 10 am - 11am PST REGISTER NOW: http://bit.ly/1lO2nAi What it's About It's not our parents' workplace anymore: as companies change the way they think about work, architects are designing workplaces that foster collaboration, openness, and yes, even afternoon naps. San Francisco has been at the center of this work culture revolution, with tech companies changing the landscape of the city inside and out. We invited the architects who designed the new office spaces for Square, GitHub and Autodesk to share with us their approach to innovative workplace design. Who is Presenting Gregory R. Mottola, AIA, is a Principal of Bohlin Cywinski Jackson [http://www.bcj.com/], an internationally recognized architecture, planning and interior design practice with five offices in the United States. Along with partners Karl Backus and Steve Chaitow, Greg leads the firm’s San Francisco practice. He lectures on the topics of humane modernism, craft and detail, and how it influences the work of his firm. In its 49 years of practice, Bohlin Cywinski Jackson’s work has received more than 550 design awards; Greg’s projects have been honored with more than 50 of these, including a 2014 honor award from IIDA-NC for the Square Headquarters project in San Francisco. Rosa Sheng, AIA, joined Bohlin Cywinski Jackson in 1997 and became a founding member of the San Francisco office in 1999 while serving as Project Architect for Pixar Animation Studio's Headquarters in Emeryville. With 20 years experience, Rosa has led a variety of award winning and internationally acclaimed design projects, which range from the aesthetically minimal, highly technical development of the glass structures for Apple’s original high profile retail stores to the innovative LEED NC-GOLD Lorry I. Lokey Graduate School of Business at Mills College. She was also part of the team for Square Headquarters and is currently working on innovative and sustainable projects for UC Davis and Dominican University of California. Rosa also serves as a Board of Director for AIA San Francisco and is the Founding Chairperson for The Missing 32% Project Committee, to address the issue of Equity in Architecture. She is also a member of SCUP, USGBC and OWA. [http://www.bcj.com/] Doug Mehl, AIA, is the co-founder and Design Principal of Fennie+Mehl Architects [http://www.fm-arch.com/]. Fennie + Mehl Architects has establish itself as a premier San Francisco design studio with an outstanding reputation for designing singularly imagined spaces that please and delight the people who use them. They do things differently. That's because their design philosophy doesn't start with the space in mind but with their client's culture in mind. Fennie + Mehl has designed many cutting edge offices, with recent notable examples for Github, Box, Appdynamics, Western Union Digital, Silicon Valley Bank, Equinix, Microsoft and Amazon Advertising. Fennie + Mehl won the IIDA 2014 Honors Award for Github. Olle Lundberg, AIA, graduated from The University of Virginia Architecture School in 1979, and started Lundberg Design in 1987. It is a 20 person firm, with a widely varied practice that includes residences, restaurants (Slanted Door, HardWater), wineries (David Ramey, Hourglass), distilleries (Anchor, Distillery 209), corporate headquarters (Twitter, Virgin America), and even San Francisco’s bus shelters. The firm also has a fabrication facility (an outgrowth of Olle’s undergraduate sculpture degree), where they produce “signature pieces” for their projects. The office is located in San Francisco’s Dogpatch neighborhood, in an old mattress factory, where Olle, his wife Mary, and their two dogs Carney and Curly also live during the week. On weekends they can be found at their cabin on the Sonoma Coast, where Olle indulges in his other passions of cooking, making salumi, and golf. [http://www.lundbergdesign.com/] Who Should Attend Our 10th Hangout is for everyone working in the field of architectural design who is interested in learning more about designing innovative workplaces, especially for tech companies.
