"The iCUP installation uses one of the most ordinary, disposable, and seemingly inconsequential objects – the paper cup – giving the consumer another perspective to their interaction with the object through the creation of a suspended, undulating landscape. Prior to disposal, the typical use of a paper cup has an average lifespan of 10-15 minutes. The user rarely considers the elaborate process of production, distribution, or it's perfect simplicity. This installation seeks to counteract the ordinary relationship between the user and the object through challenging assumptions and ideas regarding inconsequential consumption and invisible waste by shedding light on the mundane, throw-away paper cup. The 4,000 cups reconfigures the user-object interaction (via sensors) by creating a responsive landscape that transforms the experience and surface of the cups thru the once vacant storefront."
