IDEAS CITY FESTIVAL MAY 1-4 IDEAS CITY explores the future of cities around the globe with the belief that arts and culture are essential to making them better places to live, work, and play. It was founded by the New Museum, in collaboration with hundreds of arts, education, and civic organizations, to investigate Untapped Capital—resources that are under-recognized or underutilized in our cities. The IDEAS CITY Festival, May 1-4, includes conferences and workshops, an innovative StreetFest, and more than one hundred independent projects and public events. The public outdoor IDEAS CITY StreetFest on Saturday May 4, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. will occupy more than a square block around the New Museum, activating the Bowery, Stanton, Rivington, and Chrystie Streets and Sara D. Roosevelt Park. The winning structures of the IDEAS CITY StreetFest Tenting Design Competition will premiere. Scores of inventors, small business owners, artists, ecologists, and activists will share their products and concepts demonstrating the value of Untapped Creative Capital. Valet your bike, paint with bacteria, construct a solar-powered radio using recycled materials, preserve an endangered language, get life coaching from teens, learn about neighborhood issues, and try a dish by a local food vendor. Free; rain or shine; all ages. More info: ideas-city.org Twitter: @IDEASCITY #IDEASCITY - RELATED EVENT: IDEAS CITY Conference
