Wednesday, March 11, 2014 6:45pm Reception / 7:30pm Program Begins IDEAS Campus Cirque du Soleil is an international organization founded in Quebec and dedicated to the creation, production and performance of artistic works whose mission is to invoke the imagination, provoke the senses and evoke the emotions of people around the world. In the pursuit of its dreams and in its business practices, Cirque du Soleil strives to position itself in the community as a responsible proponent of change. Welby Alditor, Director of Creation, Michael Jackson ONE Welby is most fascinated with the creative genius of others and the ways to unleash this inner force. He joined Cirque du Soleil’s casting department in the late 1990s. Later when Welby took on the Director of Strategic Relations, Arts, Circus and Sports role he was called upon to develop strategic partnerships in more than a dozen countries. Welby also led a number of large-scale creative projects as a director of creation in the Images, Events and Lifestyle division. Michael Jackson ONE marked Welby Altidor’s first mandate as Director of Creation for a Cirque du Soleil show. Boris Verkhovsky, Director of Performance Design and Development Formerly Head Coach of the Canadian National Trampoline and Tumbling team, Boris was approached by Cirque du Soleil in 1993 to consult on a proposed tumbling act for the Las Vegas resident show Mystère. His great expertise in the acrobatic field soon made it clear to all involved at Cirque: they needed to secure his expertise. First hired as Head Coach for the company, his role through the years grew to the point where, making full use of his knowledge and expertise, he leads his team in proposing, testing, designing and developing or adapting every single acrobatic performance on stage at Cirque du Soleil! IDEAS LECTURE SERIES The IDEAS Lecture Series charts a dynamic new future for architecture by engaging speakers from a broad range of disciplines. The series looks beyond the field's traditional boundaries and explores topics arising from unexpected quarters—entertainment, automotive, aerospace, and tech industries—in order to explore rapidly emerging new technologies, possibilities for interdisciplinary growth, and the role of Los Angeles in the evolution of architecture.
