January 18, 2013 Time: 12:30pm Location: Watt One Alison Hirsch - Staging Urban Ritual Visiting Lecturer, University of Toronto. Alison Hirsch is a landscape and urban designer practicing in New York City. She holds an MLA, an M.S. in Heritage Conservation and a Ph.D. in Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania. Her design research and teaching (conducted at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design, University of Virginia and University of Toronto) focus on public histories and politics of urban settlement. She is co-founder and partner of Foreground design agency (www.foreground-da.com), a transdisciplinary practice operating between the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, urbanism and the visual arts and recent prize winners in the “Pruitt Igoe Now” international design competition. She has published in Landscape Journal, Journal of Architectural Education, and forthcoming in Places and Wildproject: a Journal of Environmental Studies. Her book, City Choreography, will be released by the University of Minnesota Press in Fall 2013. The talk will be followed by a faculty Q&A at 1:15 pm and student Q&A at 1:30 pm.
