Melvin Mitchell is President & CEO of Bryant & Bryant Architects & Planners, Inc - a 40 year-old firm based in Washington D.C. Prior to assuming the presidency of BM, PLLC, he was owner-principal of Melvin Mitchell Architects (established in 1972). Mitchell is a former architecture professor at Howard University, former Director of the School of Architecture & Planning at Morgan State University, and was past president of the Washington D.C. Board of Architecture. Mitchell is the author of the critically acclaimed book, The Crisis of the African-American Architect, and obtained his B.Arch. in 1967 from Howard University and his M.Arch. in 1970 from Harvard Graduate School of Design.
