Time: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. This one-day workshop with architect James Carpenter will focus on observation and explore a conceptual approach to manifesting these observations in the built environment. Carpenter will start the day by presenting a range of light phenomena and their causes after which participants will form groups and spend time outside making their own observations and recording them using methods of choice. He will then use examples of his work to demonstrate how close observations of light can be a foundation for manifesting light in the urban realm. Student groups will conceive and develop concepts using this process and resulting in a review of final presentations by Carpenter, a visiting critic, and fellow participant groups.
