MATERIAL TECHNOLOGIES FOR INNOVATION
Sponsored by Rigidized Metals Corporation
A DesignCircuit Production
The deployment of technology as conduit between material performance and form is essential to the contemporary design and construction process. Negotiating the relationship between concept and construction requires knowledge and experience of material behaviors. Material Technologies is a one day workshop focusing on an introduction to these key production methodologies. The morning session is Rhinoceros software training introduction. A lunch discussion with metal fabrications/ suppliers Rigidized Metals Corporation will earn participants AIA credits, and afternoon session is an introduction to parametrics with Grasshopper. This workshop will introduce digital tools of analysis, design, fabrication, and metal technologies to advance innovation in architectural form.
The one day session will include a seminar exploring the use of textured metal in architectural applications and an overview/ introduction to McNeel Rhinoceros + Grasshopper NURBS modeling software. Groups will be divided into beginner and intermediate and advanced users and will focus on the relation between NURBS modeling and metal technologies.
During the day participants will be assisted with technical expertise provided by workshop critics and guests.
Participants must bring their own laptop computers, and have (at least) a demo copy of Rhino and Grasshopper installed. (check designcircuit.org for links for demo software).
Lecture with Rhino and Grasshopper Training, including AIA Credits
Maximum # of Participants: open
Cost: $150 (regular cost) or $75 (student fee)
