In the search for and materialization of the rare and the unseen, designers are reaching for infinite resolution and density of information, algorithmic profiles of matter, accelerated automation and emerging alien cognition. nSalon will engage in pattern recognizing new episteme, having at its core the concept of Wonder as a reinvigorated mode of creative discovery. 16.30 Jared Grogan: Toward an Archaeology of Wonder: Ontological Insights from the Axial Age to the Age of Computation 17.00 Mario Carpo: The Farmer, the Dentist, the Robot, and the Engineer. A new, Post-Scientific way of Searching 17.30 nSalon discussion moderated by Alisa Andrasek Jared Grogan will build up stratigraphy by following historic philosophical veins of the concept of Wonder spanning from pre-Socratic and post-platonic metaphysics straight into acute design innovation, resonating computational physics with proto-quantum indeterminacy e.g. Heraclitean flux, or recalling programmability and relativity of I Ching and more. Professor Mario Carpo will unpack variable property materials and adaptive (feedback driven) fabrication, within the larger context of a post-scientific method, which is no longer based on formalisation, but on heuristics.
