Otra/Another 09

Saturday, Oct 24, 20092 AM — Saturday, Nov 21, 20093:01 AMEDT

2212 Main Street San Diego, CA | 2212 Main Street San Diego, CA

Otra/Another 09 explore the various forms of current and future INFRASTRUCTURE in all its variations. We believe that the current urban condition across continents is forcing our infrastructure(s) into critical states of distress. We consider infrastructure to be part of urban systems and political spatial organizations that in some form or another sustain the operative functions of our cities. These include communication networks, economic zones and cultural institutions as well as informal activities dependent on the sequestering of infrastructural networks for their survival. From Detroit to Los Angeles, and from Mexico City to Mumbai, contemporary urban activities are reshaping our perception of infrastructure as something more than state-built physical networks. Otra/Another 09 explores the resilient strategies within the discipline (and beyond) to recreate and rethink our relationship with our urban environment. Participantes / Participants Arid Lands Institute, Woodbury University, Los Angeles ARG Arquitectos, Tijuana Cameron Crockett, Los Angeles Cross Studio / Generica / Daniel Carrillo / Miguel Escobar / Jose Parral, Tijuana GSAPP, Columbia University, New York / Jersey City Housing Authority Fletcher Studio, Landscape Architecture and Urban Design, Los Angeles Gerard Smulevich, Los Angeles Neil M. Denari Architects, Los Angeles Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts, Washington University in St. Louis. Southern California Institute of Architecture, Los Angeles TAAU / Entorno, Mexico City Zooburbia, Mexico City
