First Street Green with Terreform ONE present: Review | Lecture | Gathering ONE Lab Design + Science FUTURE CITIES: Socio-Ecological Exploration of the Next Metropolis Join us for a discussion to review ONE Lab student’s work on FUTURE CITIES addressing the emerging discipline of global urbaneering, a lecture by Christian Hubert from Hubert Studios, and an after party! Location: First Park @ 33 East 1st Street Date: July 27, 5:00-8:00pm Admission is free and for all ages. For more information go to www.firststreetgreenpark.org About ONE Lab: The ONE Lab (1L) is an urban non-profit group involved in research and education. 1L professes a new awakening in the power and role of designing with technology in urban areas. We have uncovered a necessity for an independent, interdisciplinary think tank, or pedagogical "silo breaker zone," in which to inquire, rouse, debate, conduct experiments, and rethink the potential of humanity at all scales. We do not see design and technology belonging to any individual mindset; instead we envision design to be totalizing, comprehensive, and global in reach. We search for harmonized global and local solutions that can open the sociopolitical borders that all too often separate design from people. The overreaching aim is to develop a language of technological design that can create proximity between individual responsibility and the current global environmental crisis. We perceive environmental problems as an issue of human alienation from the natural world, and our initiative will explore ways in which design can reformat this separation. Innovation, for us, is the answer to sustainable cities and eco-systems. www.onelab.org About Christian Hubert: Christian Hubert's design work has been characterized by an ongoing dialogue with art from direct engagement with specific artworks works to more general explorations of space, light, and material. His sensitivity to the installation of art objects has been consistently appreciated by artists, collectors, galleries, and museums. Christian Hubert has taught extensively on the East and West coasts of the US as well as in Canada. The new Christian Hubert Studio, located on the lower east side of Manhattan, is also the New York outpost of the Ph.D. program in architecture theory at the University of Delft. www.christianhubert.com About First Street Green: First Street Green (FSG) is a group of community artists, architects and residents that came together in 2008 to revitalize the NYC Parks and Recreation Department (DPR) - owned vacant lot at 33 East First Street in Manhattan into a maintainable plaza and cultural space Art Park. FSG’s phase 1 goal has been achieved through DPR’s effort and hosting of the BMW Guggenheim Lab in 2011. FSG’s new challenge in the 2nd phase of its mission is to support the new Art Park by working with the NYC DPR, and use First Park Art Park to host sustainable programming for and with the community focusing on cultural and educational events involving all of the arts, while also serving as a public forum for ideas. www.firststreetgreenpark.org
