Gregg Pasquarelli, SHoP Architects

GSAPP alum and Principal of New York-based SHoP Architects Gregg Pasquarelli presents the recently unveiled Barclays Center Arena in downtown Brooklyn—the weathering steel-clad home to the Brooklyn Nets that New York Magazine called “an architectural chest bump: juiced, genial, and aggressive all at once.” How does the new 675,000-square foot sports and entertainment complex at the intersection of Atlantic and Flatbush Avenues operate architecturally? And, how does it connect to transportation infrastructure, the surrounding low-rise, residential neighborhoods of Fort Greene and Prospect Heights, and the contentious and shifting Atlantic Yards plans from which it emerged? What does it mean to deem any project “non-controversial”? Find out more at #wood013013.
