SHAPESHIFTING: The Emerging Role of Three-Dimensional Printing in Contemporary Studio Practice and Design Technology Exhibit: Demo of 3D Printers - 4pm Technology Seminar - 5pm Panel Discussion - 6pm Colin Montoute, AIA LEED - FXFOWLE Architects Piet Meijs, Associate - Rietveld Architects LLP Evan Jenkins - SOM Model Gallery: FXFOWLE Architects, Rietveld Architects, Grimshaw, Cooper Carey, HOK, SOM, Burt Hill, Polshek Partnership Curating and Panel Moderators: Charles Matz, AIA RIBA CID, Faculty - New York Institute of Technology Jon Dillon, Adjunct Faculty - New York Institute of Technology Bishara Abdul Hamid, IT Engineer Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres served. NRI: FormLab RSVP: www.nrinet.com/aia3d The direct, physical realization of computer visualized, three-dimensional form, holds the promise of a new era of architectural design methodology. The manufacturing and production of scaled models and exotic shapes has taken center stage as a viable generator of design rules; the REAL inexorably, and without precedent, linked to the VIRTUAL. Now more than ever complex modeling explored on the computer, either by scripting or through the direct manipulation of form, has a tangible output: Three-Dimensional Printing. The impact of this important technology, its generation of form from virtual models, the potential of its expanding role in design practice, will be the subject of the roundtable/panel discussion: SHAPESHIFTING.
