As a result, urban problems are quickly escalating in complexity and scale. In order to deal with these emerging, potentially devastating problems, architects and planners must fundamentally rethink the way cities are planned and designed. SITREP.at is a New York City-based “design tank” founded to create novel, nuanced, and ultimately effective strategies for dealing with these problems. We develop these strategies through the operation of 3-week long, intensive, on-site study programs for advanced students of architecture and urban design. Our programs are instructed by dedicated teams of experienced educators and local experts, and incorporate site/office visits, lectures, seminars, and public exhibitions. We publish all our program results as situation reports on architecture and urbanity. In 2014, we are expanding our study program to study both the invisible, but insidious, urban vulnerabilities of New York City and the imperceptible, but precarious, circulation of food, water, and air resources in Istanbul. In New York City, our program will be held at our design studio next to the renowned urban renewal project, the NYC Highline, while in Istanbul, we will conduct our program in a dedicated hall at Istanbul Technical University, adjacent to Gezi Park and Taksim Square.
