Unwoven Light, a new installation by American artist Soo Sunny Park for Rice University Art Gallery will be a suspended, undulating structure made from shaped sections of chain link fencing. Within the chain link cells thousands of iridescent acrylic Plexiglas shapes will reflect and refract both natural and artificial light. Changing colors from yellow to magenta to deep purple when viewed from different angles, the effect will be similar to the shifting hues and sheen of butterfly wings or peacock feathers. The opening celebration on April 11 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm and featuring remarks by Soo Sunny Park at 6:00 pm is free and open to all. Complimentary beverages, including ale from Saint Arnold Brewery, will be served. Paid parking (credit card only) is available directly in front of the gallery on the Fondren Visitors’ Lot and there is plenty of free parking near the Rice Stadium. For more information see the VISIT page at ricegallery.org or call 713.348.6069.
