Thanks for the View, Mr. Mies looks at Lafayette Park, a middle-class residential complex in downtown Detroit that boasts the largest collection of buildings designed by Mies van der Rohe in the world. Since its completion in 1963, it has been one of Detroit’s most racially integrated and economically stable neighborhoods. The book brings together interviews with and essays by residents of Lafayette Park, archival material, and recent photography to create a thoughtful and often humorous portrayal of daily life in this modernist neighborhood, in many ways turning the conventional architecture monograph on its head. Join architecture and design critic Alexandra Lange in conversation with the book’s creators, Danielle Aubert, Lana Cavar, and Natasha Chandani, to explore this unique neighborhood and how the book came to be. http://www.vanalenbooks.org/
