Time: 6:30 p.m. Join SHoP Architects at its office for drinks, informal conversation, and a behind the scenes look at recent and upcoming projects. This program is part of First Friday, a monthly opportunity for League members to visit the offices of leading design practices to see work on the boards and learn more about the offices’ organization and design processes. These informal social gatherings feature happy hour drinks arranged by the host office. Based in New York, SHoP Architects is known for a process-driven approach to the design and construction of architecture. SHoP, founded in 1996, is headed by seven principals, with a staff of over 160 architects, designers, engineers, and project managers. Significant projects include the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the Botswana Innovation Hub in Gaborone, and New York’s East River Waterfront. The office’s educational and professional experience encompasses architecture, fine arts, structural engineering, finance, and business management. The firm’s range of services includes planning, architecture, and interior design. SHoP works closely with its sister company, SHoP Construction (SC). Formed in 2007, SC extends the firm’s capacity for construction management, BIM/VDC, sustainability engineering, as well as building envelope consulting. The firm’s current projects include the redevelopment of the historic Hudson’s site in Detroit; towers on West 57th Street and First Avenue; modular towers at Atlantic Yards in Brooklyn; as well as master plans for Essex Crossing in Lower Manhattan, the Domino Sugar Refinery in Brooklyn, and Konza Technology City in Nairobi.
