Visual Urbanism: Locating Place in Time Fri 29th May 2015, 09.30 – 17.00 British Library Conference Centre TO BOOK: http://www.bl.uk/events/visual-urbanism-locating-place-in-time How does the temporal dimension influence practices of urban place-making? What happens to our perception of urban space when we look at it both forwards and backwards in time? How can time-based media be used to challenge linear notions of time? Following the success of two previous events, researchers and practitioners from across the humanities and social sciences will come together to discuss contemporary concerns within visual urbanism in the third annual conference of the International Association of Visual Urbanists (iAVU). The conference will comprise presentations and panel discussions examining interdisciplinary approaches to investigating urban space and its temporalities. Presentations will be given by Professor Michael Keith (Centre on Migration, Policy and Society (COMPAS), University of Oxford), Professor Jane Rendell (Bartlett School of Architecture), Sarah Turner (University of Kent), Brian Rosa (City University of New York), Rupert Griffiths (Royal Holloway), Dominika Blachnicka-Ciacek (Goldsmiths) and Rebecca Ross (Central Saint Martins). In addition, the event will include a short film festival showcasing work by artists and researchers exploring urban space through moving images and sound. Tickets cost £25/£15 concessions which includes refreshments, a sandwich lunch and wine reception. Tickets can be purchased here: http://www.bl.uk/events/visual-urbanism-locating-place-in-time Presented in association with Urban Photo Fest and Goldsmiths, University of London.
