Wes Jones: Meet the Nelsons book launch

Saturday, Feb 13, 20105 AMEDT

960 East 3rd Los Angeles, CA | 960 East 3rd Los Angeles, CA

Please join the LA Forum for the launch of Wes Jones: Meet the Nelsons. Meet the Nelsons, the sixth volume of the Forum Pamphlet Series, documents "The Nelsons," Wes Jones's notorious comic strip that appeared in ANY Magazine (Architecture New York) from 1994 to 2001. At once a critical send-up of 1990s architectural discourse and a masterfully executed homage to the traditions and techniques of comic book art, "The Nelsons" addresses themes ranging from the legacy of the machine aesthetic to the challenges of virtuality to key disciplinary personalities such as Buckminster Fuller and Manfredo Tafuri. Each strip combines insider knowledge and healthy skepticism with a sly wit rarely encountered in serious architectural discourse. This book brings together every frame of "The Nelsons" in a single volume and features bonus texts by Jones himself, ANY editor Cynthia Davidson, former LA Forum president Mohamed Sharif. Cynthia Davidson is a writer and editor based in New York City. She is the director of Anyone Corporation and the founding editor of ANY Magazine and Log. Wes Jones is founder and principal of Jones, Partners: Architecture based in El Segundo and is a faculty member at SCI-Arc. Mohamed Sharif is Assistant Chair of the Architecture/Landscape/Interiors program at Otis College of Art and Design and a former president of the Los Angeles Forum of Architecture and Urban Design. December 2009 / Forum 06 / Softcover 7 x 8 ½ inches / 96 pp / 4 color ISBN: 978-0-9763166-8-8 Retail Price: $19.95 Books are available now from R.A.M. Publishers. www.rampub.com Los Angeles Forum for Architecture and Urban Design: www.laforum.org
