Night five of the L.A. Conservancy's 2015 Last Remaining Seats will feature "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" at the Orpheum Theatre. The popular film series presents classic films in historic theatres. Based on the Roald Dahl's 1964 novel "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," the film centers on reclusive candy maker Willy Wonka (Gene Wilder), who has closed his factory to outsiders in order to keep his rivals from stealing his candy recipes. Mr. Wonka announces he has hidden five "Golden Tickets" inside of his chocolate Wonka Bars, and the finders of these tickets will receive a tour of his factory along with a lifetime supply of chocolate. Nobody wants the prize more than Charlie Bucket, a young boy who lives nearby Wonka's mysterious factory. As fate would have it, Charlie finds the final ticket and is treated to an array of delicious and dazzling delights along with the four other children with Golden Tickets. One by one, the children ignore Wonka's warnings of danger and fall victim to sugary sweet temptations. Charlie passes all of Wonka's tests, ultimately winning a prize beyond his wildest dreams. The film earned Gene Wilder a Golden Globe nomination for Best Motion Picture Actor - Musical/Comedy for his role as Willy Wonka. All movie goers will receive a $10 Candy Card on the night of the show, courtesy of local candy boutique Sugarfina. Pre-show organ music will be played by Robert Salisbury on the Orpheum's 1928 Mighty Wurlitzer Organ. The L.A. Conservancy started the film series in 1987 as a way to draw attention to L.A.'s historic theatres. The film series has now become a summer tradition, drawing thousands of people from the region, the nation, and outside the U.S. Tickets are on sale now and are $20 for the general public and $16 for Conservancy members.
