Twice a year we will gather in tens of thousands -possibly millions- at the Neverland Ranch to see our beloved King of Pop glowing in the night sky. We celebrate His birth and His innocence -the King of Pop - and lament His death and His faults -Wacko Jacko- , for He is a god of modern times. 

The proposed ceremonies will be hugely profitable for the family. They can continue to exploit Michael as they have always done.

Another Part Of Me

A circular black ring is set into the ground. Dancing across it are white and golden footsteps. The footsteps notate Michael’s choreography. They create a perpetual loop of his memory and the melancholy of the gaze of inescapable celebrity and performance. Like a child’s game of hopscotch one can play with the footsteps and Michael in a personal way, taking joy in something of his love and creation. Showing the power of his talent and love to affect the others and world that survives him.

Public icon/Reclusive genius

How does one immortalize a truly astounding public icon and reclusive genius? For this competition I chose to represent the duality within Michael Jackson’s nature: part extroverted entertainer and part introverted thinker. With a sleek contemporary aesthetic I have devised a monument (seemingly precarious in its placement) that presents the silhouette of Michael Jackson within a vibrant colorful solar-powered surface, and, a scrolling list of Michael Jackson’s quotes on the back side.

Thousands of Golden Michael Jackson statuettes, molded from the confiscated and recycled Grammy statuettes won my those in the hundred or so categories no one cares about (Best Album for Children, Best Hawaiian Music Album, Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package, Best Album Notes: Classical, Best Contemporary World Music Album, etc). 

Twenty years later, NASA is surprised by the surge in applications for the astronaut program, saving it from irrelevance.  Michael Jackson is awarded a posthumous Congressional Space Medal…

The “Michael Jackson Light of Life” monument will reside in the very city that began his journey to the top- Detroit, Michigan. Breaking a record previously held by the Luxor in Las Vegas, the Michael Jackson Light of Life will beam brighter then all others on Earth, reminding us of the monumental impact Jackson’s life and music had on the entire globe. This world famous pose will forever be memorialized in this eight story high metal sculpture that fittingly stands upon a glowing world.

Becoming “Ben”

A prophetic account of Deleuzian becoming-animal, Jackson’s first solo hit foreshadowed the dramatic metamorphoses that characterized his life as the man transformed himself and the world around him.

Hugely influential, Jackson is represented by a monolithic sculpture overlooking the Earth, visible whenever the moon walks the night sky, yet inaccessible, isolated on his own world.

No literal monument, the becoming-rat of “Ben”‘s protagonist is a metaphor for Jackson’s becomings, and our own.

My idea was inspired by Michael’s video ‘Black or White’, when he appears standing at the of the Statue of liberty. The idea was to have a sculpture standing just like in the video, so that Michael’s monument becomes the whole Statue of liberty.

There are two main arguments of this idea: The first is the symbolic value of the Statue of Liberty which lies in ideals such as liberty, peace, human rights, democracy and opportunity. There is no person in our popular culure that represents these values as Michael Jackson did.  And…

The Monument is based on the study of the emotional aspects of an artist who creates and morphs through different environments in every performance. Our structure is a simple form that morphs, creating a sense motion and sculpting the interior space that works as a memory of Michael’s career. This sensuous geometry is inspired in his body language and dance moves, creating playful patterns of light and shadows. This monument wants to celebrate the life and art of Michael Jackson.

Michael Jackson was miserable-he wanted is to be himself and to live his life (and help others). He was wrong, once reaching top charts, it was impossible to do (see Elvis). Now he belonged to his listeners, the media, the world.
To be left alone, be himself – this is my wish for him.
Location:
The area were the statue of Liberty resides, should become a memorial ocean park. The statue of Liberty belongs to the world, and so Michael Jackson’s music, the king of pop.

The Moonwalker

…the moonwalker shall appear every year on the moon.
A satellite shall be placed in moon’s geostationary orbit, between sun and moon. It shall have a panel with dancing profile of Michael Jackson (MJ) on one side and solar panels on the other. The MJ panel shall unfold only in the month of August, from and to new moon, casting a shadow on moon’s surface to mark MJ’s month of birth. Earth station shall control this and keep the panel parallel to sunlight (no shadow) at other times.

The King of Pop Moon Rock

WE PROPOSE A MINIATURE STATUE OF THE KING OF POP CARVED OUT OF MOON ROCK, preserving his stage presence in a glass marble for eternity. As moon rock is extraordinarily precious it will be small, yet not much smaller than he would have appeared on stage. The US gov’t will chip in, donating a fragment of a sample returned by Apollo 16 in 1972, the year MJ released his solo debut album. Occasionally it will be on display touring the world, while stored away safely from the public most of the time.

The horizontal surface is selected to indicate continuity of urban space for event taking place throughout time, instead of volumetric design. Modular boxes are the basis of this plaza’s design and due to their movements are able to create different possibilities for the visitors. Every part of this plaza is placeless and indefinite.A number of boxes are lightened at night, as in “Billie jean” music video, to illuminate the presence of Michael among his numerous lovers.

This monument presented by me is located on immense territory of California. The main concept of the project is to express life’s eternality. This idea becomes obvious after looking at the monument’s territory which is covered with massive and infinite white shapes. For the person walking through the monument these huge and massive shapes would seem to be as small as for Michael Jackson the whole universe was.
All this clearly expresses that Michael Jackson will always be living in our minds as shining star of Pop Music.
