RIBA selects Theis and Khan to design its new London administration center

Since our last update on this competition, Theis and Khan was recently selected to design RIBA's new administration center at 76 Portland Place, London, W1. Theis and Khan has won previous RIBA awards and was shortlisted in the RIBA Stirling Prize and Manser Medal in 2011.

The Theis and Khan team (including Max Fordham LLP together with Price & Myers) was one of six finalists that included: Ben Adams Architects Ltd.; Moxon Architects Ltd.; Piercy & Company London Ltd.; shedkm Architects Ltd. and Spacelab.

"The new premises, just a couple of doors from the Institute’s Art Deco landmark building at 66 Portland Place, will be transformed to provide high-quality new office space that will be exemplary in its design, and environmental sustainability.

RIBA President Stephen Hodder said: 'The selection panel was greatly impressed by all the shortlisted teams’ initial thoughts, approach to the project and their experience and ability to deliver within a constrained timeframe.  Theis and Khan gave an exceptionally considered approach and clearly demonstrated how they aim to meet our aspirations.  We were particularly inspired by the team’s consideration of the relationship between our new premises and our main RIBA headquarters building, and how they had successfully delivered projects with such synergies in the past.'
